Building Blocks:
Do you excel at something—whether it's a skill, talent, or area of knowledge—but feel like you don’t look the part? Maybe you worry that you don’t meet certain expectations, whether they’re about appearance, age, or experience. This self-doubt can create a barrier, not only preventing you from fully stepping into your potential but also keeping others from benefiting from your expertise.
Two years ago, my world transformed in an incredible way when I was asked to become a Spin Instructor at our Wellness Center. While I was confident in my ability to do a great job, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I didn’t “look” the part. If I had let those fears hold me back instead of jumping in with both (clipped in) feet, I wouldn't be experiencing the richer, more fulfilling life I have now.
By holding yourself back, you miss opportunities for growth and impact. You may even find yourself shrinking from situations where you could make a real difference, just because you don’t feel "qualified" or "worthy" enough. But the truth is, your unique perspective and abilities are valuable, no matter how you perceive yourself or how others might judge you. It's time to break free from the limitations you’ve set and share your expertise with the world.
How are YOU holding yourself back?
Your spin instructor story beautifully captures how stepping through our 'not looking the part' fears can lead to unexpected fulfillment. It makes me wonder how many other enriching experiences we miss when we let self-doubt win.
